And All the Women are White: Why Gender Equity is Not Enough

Sometimes the truth hurts.

It’s inconvenient.

It’s painful.

But in the end, it’s necessary to face if change is to ever come.

I’d like to invite you to take a listen to my TEDx talk, And All the Women are White: Why Gender Equity is Not Enough. In it, I focus on the particular challenges that women of color, and especially Black Women face when it comes to ascending to positions of leadership within corporate America.

The fact of the matter is, we are, in many ways, today’s Hidden Figures.

We’re here.

We’re in the trenches.

We’re producing extraordinary work.

But more often than not, while our contributions are valued, when it comes to ascending to official spaces of leadership we’re all too commonly left behind. What’s worse, with the recent loss of Ursula Burns as CEO of Xerox and the impending resignation of Sam’s Club’s Rosalind Brewer, Black women’s leadership is poised to become even more rare.

It’s time to boldly face this reality, and begin the hard work that’s necessary to create the change that’s long overdue.
